ShedLife
SimCity for building a real property. A near-sim on real Washington regulations where every move is an email to a real agency, built for the Claude for Games hackathon.

I built ShedLife for the Claude for Games hackathon in San Francisco on October 12, 2026. It's "SimCity for building a real property," a near-sim that sits on top of actual government regulations. The goal is something like 70 to 80 percent of what it would be like in reality, but slightly more fun.
You own a real vacant 4.79-acre parcel in rural King County, Washington (zoned RA-5, real USGS terrain, a real stream). To live there you need water, septic, power, a building permit and a final inspection, and every move is an email. Real agencies like King County Permitting, Public Health, Ecology, L&I and PSE, plus fictional contractors, banks, insurers and prefab vendors, answer on the game clock. A deterministic engine built on real King County rules and 2026 fees decides what happens. Claude voices every reply in character.
What's in it
- An isometric Three.js site plan on the real parcel and terrain, with live setback, septic and well-distance checks that cite KCC and WAC
- A statewide Washington parcel map, so you can pick any vacant lot
- An inbox of agencies and NPCs, a request composer with document checkboxes, and real-style government forms with reference numbers
- A Permit Path checklist (septic design, well, building permit, power, inspection) with real costs
- Shop real Washington sheds, tiny homes, park models, modular homes and ADUs
- Site work with competing crew bids, a bank loan subgame, insurance, and bills that turn into liens if you don't pay
- A Law view with verbatim RCW and WAC text, fictional officials on real councils, a Foreman NPC, and day and night time controls
Why. There are many plots of land in great locations, but turning them into somewhere you can live takes a lot of permits, and that slows everything down. If that process could be automated, people could build for less.
