Multiverse Premiere at GDC
A screening-format premiere during GDC week in San Francisco, putting the ecosystem's games in front of the game developers who were already in town.
Numbers
- 1,000+
- Developer registrations
Problem
GDC puts everyone you want to reach in one city for a week and books every hour of it. Competing with the show floor for their attention is a losing game.
Solution
A screening-format premiere. A cinema, the ecosystem's games on a big screen, and an hour that felt like a break from the conference rather than more of it.
Analysis
I picked the format against the competition instead of for the content. Another booth, another panel, another happy hour all ask someone to spend GDC energy they have already run out of by Wednesday. A dark room and a seat ask for the opposite.
Showing the games in a cinema also flattered them. A trailer on a phone at a stand does the opposite.
Result
Over 1,000 developer registrations, and a room of people in GDC badges who chose to be somewhere other than the show floor.
Photos

A cinema, not a ballroom. Games look like games on a screen that size.
